New Art – Worthy Captain America

Here’s a little painting of one of the greatest movie moments ever, even if it is only the second best in its own movie, Steve Rogers showing Thanos, Thor, and the world that the little budge we saw in Age Of Ultron was no joke and he is truly worthy to wield the mighty Mjölnir. And then goes opening up a giant can of whoop-ass on the mad Titan before ultimately being bested right as the newly un-snapped cavalry arrives (the single greatest moment in the movie, and in any movie of the last few years). I w,ant to do a piece depicting Cap finally – FINALLY! – giving the iconic “Avengers, assemble” line, but I’m still unsure how to go about doing it. It would certainly be a much larger canvas piece. I had to get this one out of my system, though. The image and moment are just too good. So here he is. 9″ x 12″ acrylic on canvas. Email to purchase.

“Portaits Of Awesomeness” Art Show Opening Mon 10/20 in Hoboken

On behalf of  Northern Soul and the Northern Soul Art Project’s curator Narciso Espiritu, Jr., I invite you to the opening reception for “Portraits Of Awesomeness: The Pop-Culture Art of Craig Mahoney” on Monday, October 20th at 7pm. Nearly two dozen new, original drawings and paintings celebrating my favorites from movies, music, TV, and comedy will be on display, with most being shown publicly for the first time.

All artwork will be available for purchase. In addition, there will be drink specials, free snacks, and some of the movies and music that inspired the artwork playing throughout the night. I’m also hearing a rumor that there will be cookies. No promises, though.

If you’re the type of person who enjoys promoting other people’s work (and if you are, THANKS!), here’s the link to the facebook event page and below are some promo pics for your Instagram, twitter, and facebook feeds. Feel free to tag me on instagram (@yerolepalCraiggers) or twitter (@CraigMahoney) and hashtag it #PortraitsOfAwesomeness (Is that a long hashtag? Yes. Do I have a better idea? No. We’ll just have to live with it.).

CM Podcast – Will Leitch, Mel Gibson & more

Craig takes apart Mel Gibson’s rants, talks about racist language, why you don’t want to date a creative person, the future of the podcast & CM Studios, and takes a call from NY Magazine & The Sporting News’s Will Leitch to discuss LeBron James and the passing of George Steinbrenner.

Here’s the video of the Louis CK bit I mentioned:

Monday Morning Hangover Podcast

In another Monday Morning Hangover edition of the podcast, Craig welcomes Helicopter Dance Off’s Bill Coyle aboard as co-host, and they yammer on about the greatness of Toy Story 3, the ridiculousness of the Jerry Seinfeld/Lady Gaga feud, something called the “World Cup”, and more.

CM Podcast w/ Jerry Beck

Craig talks to animation historian and producer Jerry Beck about his great blog Cartoon Brew, his book “The 100 Greatest Looney Tunes Cartoons” (watch them on the facebook page here), Cartoon Network’s new Looney Tunes show, the creator driven cartoons of the 90’s, and gets interrupted by a very, very excited Mickey dog.

Just took a look at my schedule for the next few days, and HOLY CRAP!, I have a lot going on. Aside from the normal, everyday, human adult things I’m trying to do today, like laundry and apartment cleaning, I have to finish up that Phil Hughes painting that has been kicking my ass like Popeye on a spinach bender, and design a new podcast logo and flyer to start promoting the show out in the big, scary, offline, three-dimensional, real world. I’m also still searching for a guest for Tuesday’s Yankee podcast (say YES, Kim Jones!).

Here’s a list of some of other cool shit going on and some cool places you may (or may not) see me.

  • Like every weekend this summer, you can catch me working the camera for the TV show over at Monmouth Park Racetrack. It’s always a great time, so come on down and, if you’re near the winner’s circle, say Hi. (I just hope it’s not a thousand damn degrees again)
  • Saturday night at The Stone Pony catch Last Perfect Thing. They’re pretty damn awesome and are gonna be swingin’ by the studio in a little over a week for a podcast. They’ve been nice enough to put me on the guest list, so you may very well see me there… alone and in a corner typing half-drunk into my blackberry.
  • Sunday night the great Bill Coyle of improv comedy group Helicopter Dance Off will be coming by the studio to help me with the Monday Morning Hangover podcast. We’ll be riffing on the week that was, and answer a few listener questions.
  • On Monday I’m meeting with the producer and director of “Falling To Pieces”, a short film that will be shot in and around Asbury Park to be entered in the Project Twenty1 Film Festival. I’m gonna be doing a little  acting and camera work on it. They’re currently looking for cast and crew. Details can be found here.
  • Monday night it’s the Best of Monmouth Summer Festival from Monmouth Health & Life Magazine. I’ll be there doing some live drawing, painting, and podcasting. I may even sing a song or two.
  • Finally (phew!) on Tuesday night, at the BlueClaws’ FirstEnergy Park in Lakewood, it’s a Jersey Shore Summer Tweetup. Come meet your twitter and facebook friends in the flesh have a dog, a few beers, and catch some great minor league baseball. Details here.

After that I will crawl back into my hole, away from the sunlight, to draw, paint, podcast, and watch my Jodie Foster videos in private.
