Here’s a holiday window display I did at the ModCup coffee shop in the Jersey City Heights. It’s a tribute to Christmas movies that are a little more offbeat, dark, or rarely thought of as Christmas movies. I started with the idea of John McClane jumping from a giant explosion as though the tree itself were the Nakatami building, and the whole thing grew (no pun intended) from there. All in all, it’s 15 separate hand-drawn illustrations on a hand-built cartoon tree. The movies are: The Nightmare Before Christmas, Edward Scissorhands, Die Hard, Lethal Weapon, A Christmas Story, Gremlins, Scrooged, Home Alone, Iron Man 3, Trading Places, Jingle All The Way, Ghostbusters 2, Batman Returns, Bad Santa, and The Empire Strikes Back.
You can check it out in person at 479 Palisade Ave in Jersey City, NJ from now through New Year’s, and see more detailed photos at the end of this post.

I’m curating two upcoming group art shows paying tribute to two different legends:
In May of 1939, Detective Comics published their 27th issue with a new hero on the cover who would go on to become one of the most popular fictional characters of all time, in any medium, The Dark Knight, The Caped Crusader, the BATMAN!
To celebrate his 75th anniversary, I’m putting together a tribute show featuring artwork depicting Batman, his sidekicks and allies, his rogues gallery, and all the other colorful characters that populate Gotham City.
The show will open at Boca Grande Mexican Cantina on Thursday, May 1st. The art reception will start at 7pm, with a music & comedy show following at 8.
On February 24th this year the comedy world lost a legend when Harold Ramis passed away at the age of 69. To pay tribute to one of the most influential comedic voices of the last 50 years, I’m curating a group art show at The Hot Chicks Gallery at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre, East.
We’re looking for work representing the full breadth and depth of his career as an actor, writer, and director, from his early days with Second City to National Lampoon, Caddyshack, Ghostbusters, and Groundhog Day, right up to work like The Ice Harvest.
The opening reception will be held from 7pm – 9pm on Tuesday, May 13th and will stay up for the duration of the show until mid-June
To submit a piece for both or either show, please e-mail a file of the finished piece or work-in-progress to me at email@example.com no later than Monday, April 28th. All work must be framed or otherwise suitable for hanging. The artist will receive 70% of all sales, curator and gallery will take a 30% commission.
Hey, kids! This Tuesday I’ll be kicking off what will hopefully be a new monthly show in Jersey City with a very serious lineup of very funny comics.
