Here’s a holiday window display I did at the ModCup coffee shop in the Jersey City Heights. It’s a tribute to Christmas movies that are a little more offbeat, dark, or rarely thought of as Christmas movies. I started with the idea of John McClane jumping from a giant explosion as though the tree itself were the Nakatami building, and the whole thing grew (no pun intended) from there. All in all, it’s 15 separate hand-drawn illustrations on a hand-built cartoon tree. The movies are: The Nightmare Before Christmas, Edward Scissorhands, Die Hard, Lethal Weapon, A Christmas Story, Gremlins, Scrooged, Home Alone, Iron Man 3, Trading Places, Jingle All The Way, Ghostbusters 2, Batman Returns, Bad Santa, and The Empire Strikes Back.
You can check it out in person at 479 Palisade Ave in Jersey City, NJ from now through New Year’s, and see more detailed photos at the end of this post.

As I get to work on a number of new pieces (which I’ll be posting shortly), I’ve decided to start offering a “Deal Of The Day” on certain pieces to try and clear out some inventory. I don’t know if I’ll be doing this everyday, but the deals themselves will only last that long. Today’s is my painting of Luke Skywalker crash landing in the swamps of Dagobah during Empire Strikes Back, entitled “R2, You Stay With The Ship”. It is an original, one-of-a-kind 36″ x 24″ acrylic painting on canvas, and can be yours today for only $400, down from $550. This is sure to please and class up the home of any Star Wars fan. Click the “Buy Now” button to purchase.

Here are bunch of new pieces I’m working on that will hopefully all be finished by the end of the month. The Uma Thurman “Kill Bill” piece, Bill Murray triptych, and 80’s cartoon hero group shot will all be available for purchase. The Arthur Guinness and John Jameson portraits are special commissions for the 9th & Coles Tavern in Jersey City.
Hey, look who’s back! Sorry, kids. Sandy threw me off my game a bit and put a few extra things in my lap, but it feels good to be back in the proverbial saddle again.
I decided to get back to the drawing board with something relatively easy (which I, of course, botched halfway through and angrily had to take an eraser to). This was meant to be more of a quick sketch, but I ended up going into a bit more detail despite myself.
Anyway, here he is, the galaxy’s greatest smuggler, the man who made the Kessel Run in less than twelve parsecs, that scruffy-looking nerfherder himself, Han “Never Tell Me The Odds” Solo (getting ready to shoot first, naturally).

Here’s my Big Lebowski-inspired “The Dude Abides”. Man, I love that. I could do a whole series of paintings based on the film. I could do a whole series of just Coen Bros. inspired paintings, actually. Maybe I will someday.
This painting is for sale, and will really tie a room together. To purchase, e-mail me at @craigmahoney.com Work-in-progress pics are below.
